Learn the Periodic Table: Interactive Practice Quiz

This quiz was made to help students reinforce their knowledge of key elements from the periodic table — the ones most commonly studied at secondary/high school level, including GCSE, IB, and AP Chemistry. You’ll be given a random element and asked to enter its symbol, group number, and valence (oxidation) values. Your answers will be checked instantly. You can click the ❓ button to reveal the correct answer if you’re unsure — but doing so will reset your progress for that element.

The included elements span from hydrogen to lead and include:

  • Essential nonmetals (like Oxygen, Nitrogen, and Chlorine),
  • Alkali and alkaline earth metals (such as Sodium, Calcium, and Barium),
  • Common transition metals (like Iron, Copper, and Zinc),
  • Representative p-block elements (like Silicon, Phosphorus, and Bromine).

More obscure or unstable elements — like Francium, Polonium, and most of the lanthanides and actinides — are not included, as they’re generally outside the scope of most school-level chemistry courses.
