So, I was using ChatGPT just to check an email over and it suggested some changes, giving me the result in US English. Because I was emailing an educated person I needed to change that to actual English (also called UK English or British English). {see what I did there?}
Here is the original US English by ChatGPT:
Subject: Overview of My Routine Tasks
Hi Tom,
I hope this email finds you well.
I wanted to share with you a collection of spreadsheets summarizing my routine tasks for the latter half of 2024. While these spreadsheets don't capture every single detail of my work, they provide an overview of the common tasks I focus on to support the business's growth online.
There are, of course, numerous other tasks—both large and small—that I’ve handled during this period. However, my intent here is to give you a sense of the main activities I prioritize.
I take pride in being a reliable remote worker who is committed to delivering results and ensuring that my contributions bring value to the company.
If you have any questions or need further details, feel free to let me know.
Best regards,
[Your Name]
So I asked ChatGPT to translate that to British English and this is what it said:
Subject: A Quick Gander at Me Routine Tasks
Oi Tom,
Hope you’re doin’ alright, mate!
Just thought I’d give you a quick heads-up, yeah? I’ve put together a load of spreadsheets with a rundown of the routine tasks I’ve been on with for the back end of 2024. It ain't every little thing I do, but it’s the stuff I keep me eye on to help the business keep growin' online, innit?
There’s plenty more I’ve been gettin’ on with, big and small, but this here’s just to give ya a feel for what I’m prioritisin’, savvy?
I’m a proper reliable remote worker, and I really care about gettin’ things done right, so the company’s gettin’ value.
If you need any more info or got any questions, just give us a bell.
Cheers,

Obviously this is satire, ChatGPT did a great job of turning the text back to correct English {I did it again}. But then I changed the prompt to output “a colloquial London accent” (ChatGPT’s words not mine, I wrote “Cockney” accent)… and that was the result. A bit of fun innit bruv?
Oh, one last thing. Naturally I didn’t use any of the stuff from ChatGPT because it was pants. I just checked my own, much better original, and sent that. ChatGPT does tend to make things overly formal…
