So you just got Prestashop 1.6 and are a bit overwhelmed. You want to know where to start. I suggest you start by making it look how you want, after you customize the front page, you will feel like it is your own and can start to polish it off and edit all the small things.

In this article I will just point you to the right spot, you should be able to figure out the rest. This was written for Prestashop 1.6 but may work on later (future) versions. Before we start: You can easily view all the modules published (enabled) on the frontage by logging in to the Prestashop 1.6 back office and clicking the modules link on the left, choosing the heading “Front Office Features” and then changing the sort by preferences to “enabled”, see screenshot:

1) Change the top Banner

Open the prestashop 1.6 back office. Click modules and then click the link modules in that section. Search for “banner” and you will see “Banner Block”. Click configure to edit/customise it.

2) Edit the Telephone number.

From the backoffice click modules and then click the link modules in that section. Search for “Contacts” and you will see a few options. Click “contact block” to change the telephone number just under the banner on the fronptage. While you are there, you may wish to change the “Contact information block” which shows at the bottom of the page.

3) Changing your logo on the frontpage/homepage

You can find this by logging in to the administration back office and clicking Preferences>Themes

4) Customise the frontpage/homepage menu

In the Prestashop 1.6 admin back office click modules and then click the link modules in that section. Search for “menu” and you will see “Top Horizontal menu”. Click configure to edit it.

5) Changing the rotating banner (image slider)

In Prestashops back office, click modules and then click the link modules in that section. Search for “image” and you will see a couple of options. Click configure for the “Image slider for your homepage”.

6) New products block

In Prestashops back office, click modules and then click the link modules in that section. Search for “New” and you will see a couple of options. Click configure for the “New products block”. There you can configure the new products displayed or disable the module.

7) Change the linked image blocks on the frontpage/homepage

Open your backoffice click modules and then click the link modules in that section. Search for “theme” and you will see “Theme configurator” once you click configure for this module you will see it is easy to change each image block and link to fit your needs.

8) Change the Facbook follow us module

In Prestashop 1.6 you can find the Facebook module block  from the administration backoffice. Click modules and then click the link modules in that section.  Search for “Facebook” and you will see “Facebook block”. Click configure to edit the Facebook settings, you will simply need to add your Facebook page and the block will change.

9) Change the info blocks below the linked images (next to the Facebook block)

Go to the backoffice. Click modules and then click the link modules in that section. Search for “Custom Information” and you will see “Custom CMS Information block” NOTE: The one with CMS, not “Custom Information block”. You can click configure to edit the information which appears in this block in Prestahop 1.6. The two options cover both the block which appear on your prestashop homepage.

10) Change the details for the social network icons at the bottom of the Prestashop homepage.

As alway, start in Prestashop’s backoffice. Click modules and then click the link modules in that section. Search for “Social” and you will see “Social Networking Block”. When you configure the options there it will change both the social networking block at the bottom right of the homepage and also the setting used for the icons. Only the items in the module which have a value will show and icon on the frontpage. i.e. if you don’t add a pace book page URL in the “Social Networking Block”, then the Facebook icon won’t appear. This is how you can turn off Facebook, Twitter, Google and Pinterest icon by simply opening the module and deleting any urls to social networking site you don’t want to connect to.

11) Changing the Information blocks at the bottom of the prestashop page.

The information blocks at the bottom of the frontpage can be changed by searching for “Contacts” and changing the information contained in the “Contact information block”.

12) Shop links

At the very bottom of the prestashop 1.6 frontage you will see some links to shopping pages. These are system links which will display pages based on your shops content. The links for “Categories”, “Information” and “My account” automatically show content based on what products and categories are in the Prestashop 1.6x system. To hide them go to the backoffice. Actually, you can’t edit these links, but you can disable them. Click modules and then search for:
“Categories” you can disable the “Categories block”
"CMS Block" is where you can disable the dynamic links to prestashop's content (the block called "Information" on the frontpage).
“My Account” you can disable the “My account block for your website’s footer”
