How to insert the filename in Adobe Indesign Documents

by Andrew Brett Watson

Inserting the filename is really handy in Indesign documents. It means if you are viewing the .pdf or a printed version and you need to look for it then you can see what to search for because the name of the document has been stamped into the indesign file. Even better, Indesign will do it dynamically, so that after you have inserted the filename into your indesign document if you later decide to change the filename, when you open the document up again in Indesign, the filename will update automatically (just be careful you only change the filename before it’s printed or sent out, otherwise you might defeat the purpose if inserting there filename in the In Design document in the first place!).

I can show you how with a single screenshot.

What I want from a flat file CMS: (@getgrav might just be the closest).

by Andrew Brett Watson

I was just jotting some ideas about flat file CMS's and what would make me start to use one of them. Falt file CMS's are a way of building websites (and managing their content) without having to write all the code. Some popular logos of the world

Designing a logo is a great responsibility. It will be the symbol which will be associated with the business for quite a while to come. When you are designing a logo quite often one of the biggest questions is which colour should it be?

Really the number one answer to that is what every looks good to you and seams to portray you in the right light. Whatever appeals to you as the right colour for your logo is probably also the best for the general public. There is no magic colour which gets "more sales".

Can I use silver as the background for a Barcode?

by Andrew Brett Watson

Should a Barcode use a Silver or Gold background?

I wanted to print an image on a coffee age including a barcode but let the silver color of the aluminum foil show through and needed to know if the barcode would work with a silver background.

I wanted a straight answer for the question “Can I use silver as the background for a Barcode?” but couldn’t find the answer by itself, so to save others from having searching to find out if barcodes can be printed with a silver background and to have to read thorough loads of data, here it is:
