Let put this out there. I love RTS's. Love em. Lately I haven't really found a good AAA RTS to play. Admittedly I don't have a lot of time and so I am trending toward top class iPad tower defines games because I can pick them up and put them down again. But on my computer I haven't really been playing RTS for a while. That may soon change.
Now as far as RTS games go, one on my all time favourites is Total Annihilation. What. A. Classic. If you never played it and like RTS's, then head on over to find out about Spring, the Total Annihilation clone built in true 3D by a great community of fans. It's free to download and play. Here´s a video:
I also enjoyed the follow on series to Total Anihilation; Supreme Commander. These too are great games and you can pick them up for cheap now that they are "old".
You can imagine how thrilled I was to have a new RTS pop up on my radar yesterday which is obviously based on Total Anihilation/Supreme Commander. But it has a twist. Instead of a square map, building and battle takes place on a round planet and players can even leave the planet to mine asteroids and build other colonies on other planets. Shut up and take my money.
As the CEO of Uber entertainment says: "I really don't feel anyone is serving the rte genre" and I must admit I need something to inspire me to get back to some epic battles, this could be it. Here is the video from thier (now successful kickstarter campaign)
